Equine Applications
Exercise paddocks, grazing pastures, hay fields or riding areas all need gates

Horse gates can be one of the most frustrating features of a horse facility. To prevent horses from opening gates on their own, latching systems are often just as difficult for people to open - especially if you’re leading horses, carrying buckets of grain or armloads of hay, or if you're horseback
Wouldn’t it be great to have a latch you can easily open, but your horse can't?

Horse Gates
Whether a gate is made of wood, metal or any other material, safety is the first concern.
Horses have a tendency to paw and can get their legs caught in gates. To minimize this possibility avoid gates with diagonal bracing. Although cross bracing can help strengthen a gate, the angled spaces can trap legs, feet and possibly heads. Cable-supported gates offer a similar hazard. The gate shouldn’t have any rough edges, jagged protrusions, large gaps or sharp corners that might injure or trap a horse.
The height of a good horse gate should match the height of the fence in order to discourage horses from reaching over or attempting to jump the gate. This will also make it easier to operate the gate from horseback.
Gates openings should be a minimum of 4 feet to accommodate a handler with a single horse, but many openings will need to be wider to allow for more than one horse, or to accommodate vehicles and machinery.
Horse people almost never go through a gate empty-handed, so a well-functioning horse gate needs to swing easily with one hand, leaving the other free to lead a horse or carry things in and out.
Location, location, location. Gates should be strategically placed for convenience, safety and efficient farm management. This requires a well thought-out plan that takes into consideration all aspects of the horse operation.
Horse Latches
A horse owner’s greatest worry is having a horse escape. Whether it’s a horse getting out onto a highway, getting in with the wrong group of horses or into feed they shouldn't consume, it’s a constant concern. Secure, horse-proof gate latches are essential.
The BEST GATE LATCH offers horse owners peace of mind. It’s not only horse-proof; it’s user-friendly, durable and adaptable to a wide variety of fencing and gate applications. See more on Choosing The Right Latch and Mounting Your Latch.
